Lathrepibates AFISALathrepivates 1986 - 1992

Yannis Nikolaou and Pantelis Thalassinos meet one another for the first time at the music venue “Petra kai Fos” in 1985. A strange chemistry unites the two troubadours, who regardless of different musical backgrounds, manage to create a common yet special musical expression. The artistic music in Greece is at its peak at the time, and inspires the two to show their work and to record a demo. With songs that Yannis wrote in Santorini (amongst others “Anisicho, Remali”) as well as Pantelis’ song “To grafeio”, they start recording at Kostas Strategopoulos studio, Mini Farm. There, Vasilis Papakonstantinou gets the opportunity to listen to them, and he recommends them to Elias Benetos at Minos label (Benetos later becomes producer and mentor for the duet ...)

The company welcomes the band, and Lathrepivates enter the studio for the recording of their first album “Apopse leo na min koimithoume" (November 1987). With the participation of arranger Nikos Antipas and some skillful musicians, they reach a result that amazes the renowned singer Haris Alexiou. She introduces them to the venue Libra in Plaka, where they achieve great success. Followed up by a tour with Alexiou and Galani in Greece, their debut album reaches a huge recognition all over the country.  Worth crediting is Eleni Dimou, who participates with her voice on the title song, as well as on “Anisicho, Remali”, “To grafeio”, “Taksidiariko pouli” and “Lathrepivatis”.

In 1989 they release their EP “Stin Brazilia” (Minos), orchestrated by Stefanos Korkolis.  During this period, they also work with personalities like Yannis Spanos, Giorgos Xatzinasios and Marios Tokas.  After having changed company to MBI, with producer Vangelis Giannopoulos and arranger Anthony Gounaris, they release their second album "Taksithi sto oneiro" in 1990. Yannis’ songs and Pantelis’ interpretation create the miracle, and the title track as well as “Den ftaio ego pou megalono” remain timeless hits ...
Lathrepivates tour Greece and Cyprus together with Basilis Kazoulis, Anastasia Moutsatsou, Lena Alkaiou, Thodoris Papadopoulos, Dimitris Kontogiannis, Christos Giannopoulos and other remarkable artists of their generation. Their very last album "Etsi apla» (MBI 1991) is parted in two, according to the composer of the songs: six songs by Yannis on one side, and six by Pantelis on the other, where Pantelis presents his songs with lyrics by Elias Katsoulis. Still known and cherished songs from this album are “Tou Augoustou h foteia”, “Sto Pasalimani”, “Na pou megalosa”, “Eimai entaksei”, “Filia kai Dakrigona”…
After the live performances in Cyprus in 1993, the duet decides to walk separate ways. Pantelis stays for some time in Chios where he prepares for his first solo album, and Yannis goes to Crete, where he writes songs and plays with Cretan musicians. The rest of the story is known ...
